Behind two home runs from Stanton and a quality start from ace Gerrit Cole, the New York Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-3 at Yankee Stadium in New York City on 9 September.

The Yankees took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on Stanton’s eighth home run of the season. The Yankees added another run in the second inning on Josh Donaldson’s 10th home run of the season, before scoring their fourth run in the third inning on Vader’s two-run double to put the game out of reach early.

Stanton added his ninth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth to seal the deal.

Mike Tuckman, who played for the Hanwha Eagles until last year, batted well at first base and designated hitter for the Cubs, going 1-for-4 with a run scored and a lone double, but it wasn’t enough to prevent his team from losing.

Yankees ace Gerrit Cole earned his ninth win of the season, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits in 7 1/3 innings. His season ERA is now 2.85.

The Yankees improved to 49-41 on the season with the win over the Cubs, but they still face the oddity of being in fourth place in the American League East, as every team in the division has a winning percentage above .500.
