Chris Bryant, an outfielder for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball, was placed on the injured list (IL).
According to multiple local media outlets, Bryant was listed on the 1st (local time) 10-day IL (retroactive from May 31) due to a left heel bruise. He was hit in the left foot by a batted ball (foul ball) in a game on May 30 and was removed from the lineup the next day.메이저사이트
He was selected by the Chicago Cubs with the second overall pick in the 2013 draft, bombed the minor leagues and entered the big leagues. He won the National League (NL) Rookie of the Year Award in 2015 and the NL Most Valuable Player (MVP) the following year after leading the Cubs to a World Series victory. It was a step towards becoming a superstar.
After being traded to the San Francisco Giants during the 2021 season, he signed a 7-year, $180 million (235.17 billion won) contract with the Rockies as a free agent (FA) before the start of last season.
But in the Rockies, it’s a series of disappointments.
During the first year of his contract, he struggled with plantar fasciitis in his left foot and a back injury, limiting him to 42 appearances. It’s the first IL this season, but it’s already the 4th since joining the Rockies.
Bryant has a batting average of 0.263, an on-base percentage of 0.346 and a slugging percentage of 0.374 this year. His lack of slugging power is most notable. He recorded only 5 homers and 6 doubles in 214 plate appearances this season, and his ISO (slugging percentage minus batting average), which means pure slugging percentage, is only 0.111. He is 50 points below league average.
Having recorded 39 home runs, the most in 2016, he only hit 5 home runs (0 at Coors Field) last year when he started using Coors Field, a hitter’s paradise, as his home. It got even worse this year. He has just 5 home runs in 50 games.
The averages of all hitters who have played at Coors Field this year are 0.291/0.353/0.479. However, Bryant falls far behind at 0.258/0.349/0.398. He hit three home runs this season.
Rookie of the Year, MVP, and four-time All-Star, Bryant is still only 31 years old. If he recovers his health and finds the cause of his sluggishness and makes up for it, he will have enough time to show his performance worthy of his old reputation.
However, since there are not one or two problems to be solved, some raise concerns that he may fall into a previous-class ‘eating and running’.
