먹튀검증Yokohama DeNA BayStars Trevor Bauer (32), who had hoped to make the All-Star team, gave up a game-tying two-run homer in his last appearance of the first half.
Bauer gave up four runs on six hits (one home run) and one walk with five strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings against the Hanshin Tigers at Hanshin Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, on 12 April.
Bauer, who won the National League Cy Young Award in 2020, was effectively banned from Major League Baseball in 2021 due to sexual assault allegations. After not seeing action until last season, Bauer eventually made his way to Nippon Professional Baseball.
After struggling in his debut and being sent down to the second team, Bauer rebounded in June with four wins and a 2.08 ERA in four games (30⅓ innings). On the 11th, he was named the Central League’s June MVP. For the season, he is 6-2 with a 3.67 ERA in 11 games (73⅔ innings).
Bauer’s confidence was boosted by the June MVP award, and he has expressed his desire to play in the All-Star Game. “It would be an honour to play in the All-Star game,” he tweeted on 8 August, asking for All-Star votes.
Having already missed out on both the fan and coaches’ selections, Bauer’s last chance was the “Plus One” vote, which allows one player from each league to make the final All-Star Game appearance, and closed at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 12. Bauer’s performance was crucial for him to collect enough votes for the Plus One ballot.
However, Bauer came up short in a crucial outing. He gave up two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game after his team took the lead. With a 4-2 lead again, he took the mound in the eighth and gave up the tying two-run homer. In the end, Yokohama suffered a 4-5 loss to Hanshin.
According to Japanese media outlet Sportshochi, “Bauer pitched a perfect game until the third inning. However, he gave up back-to-back singles in the fourth inning to tie the game. He was on pace to complete the game, but gave up a tying two-run homer to Shota Morishita in the eighth inning,” said Bauer.
“Overall, I thought I pitched well,” Bauer said. But I made some mistakes that led to runs, which is unfortunate. We were playing good baseball, both defensively and offensively, and it’s unfortunate that I made a mistake.” Regarding his tying home run in the eighth inning, he said, “It was actually a pitch that I should have thrown higher up the plate. It went right up the middle,” he said of his mistake.
