Really interesting prospect. Former walk-on started his career at CB. Became a STs star in 2007 and then a starting Safety in 2008. Led the team in tackles. Missed 5 games due to a high ankle sprain in 2009, but still finished 5th on the team in stops. Punishing hitter and big time enforcer. Runs through his targets. And then some. You have to watch his hit on QB Zac Robinson in the 2008 Holiday Bowl to appreciate what this guy can do. Players crossing the middle have to be aware of him. Knocked a Cal WR's helmet off with a huge hit. He will also come up in the alley and take out RBs. Ward explodes through his targets. He doesn't care about his body or theirs. Good tackler. Okay cover guy. Effective in zone coverage. Only 2 INTs in the last few years, one as a Junior and one as a Senior. The pick in 2008 was impressive. Went up high to snatch a pass vs Purdue. Read the play well and aggressively went for the ball. It was thrown to the short side of the field, so that limited how much area he had to cover. Somewhat of a playmaker. Had 8 TFLs and 5 FFs over the last 2 years (starting SS). Redshirted in 2005 and will turn 24 during the upcoming season.
Late round target. Should appeal to Cover 2 teams. Could be a great STer. |
