Doucet came to LSU as a quarterback, but moved to the receiver position. That turned out to be a good choice obviously. He has good speed, but not great speed. He can make plays with the ball in his hands after the catch and does a nice job reading the field and using his blockers. He almost runs a bit like a running back in the open field. I do like Doucet's toughness. I've seen him make a number of very good catches in traffic, take big hits and hold onto the ball. This isn't a kid who is afraid of contact. He shows above average body control adjusting to poorly thrown balls and will also win his share of jump ball situations. You also see a lot of effort from him as a blocker in the run game. He does return punts as well and while he isn't an explosive guy like a Devin Hester, not many people are. He is certainly effective as a return guy. He has good hands, but not great hands.
I have Doucet as a first rounder before the combine. From talking to some personnel guys there are question marks about his route running ability, especially when he is moving to his right side. I'm interested to see how he works in the gauntlet drill after hearing this. May be nothing, may be something. |
