Matt's Notes on Kyle Shotwell

Tommy's Notes on Kyle Shotwell
Great Senior year. Won the Buck Buchanan Award as the top I-AA defensive player. Had 61 solo tackles and 21 TFLs, including 7 sacks. Had 11 tackles and 5 TFLs vs San Diego State, so it wasn't like he posted the numbers against only small schools. Played ILB at Cal Poly, but projects to the outside in the NFL. Solid hitter/tackler. Strong, forceful. Wraps up when he can. He plays a bit upright. Okay agility, COD. Pursues well. Okay speed. Good downhill player. Can be too upright when taking on blocks. Got pancaked by FB on a lead play vs Northern Colorado. Effective at shedding blocks when he uses his hands and good leverage. Gets okay depth on his pass drops.

Played in the Shrine Game: Played WLB. Showed decent athletic ability. Blew up a running play by shooting upfield and hitting the FB on an outside run. Then grabbed the jersey of the RB and pulled him down. Hustled into flat to tackle WR after a quick pass. Got blocked by FB and allowed long run. Played up on the line on 3rd/2. Not strong enough to beat TE, but got inside of him and really fought to get off the block

SUMMARY

Late round type of player.
