Interesting guy. Has only played football for a few years. Naturally gifted athlete. His father played in the NFL. Started off at Hawaii as a basketball player. Ended up a 2-year starter on the football team. Played LDE in a 3-4 at Hawaii. Plays like a DT at times due to alignment. Was listed at 250 during the year, but I've read he played closer to 290. Will battle. Not an explosive burst, but is quick. Good motor. Very agile for big guy. Has a good spin move. Good inside move. Looks like a natural pass rusher. Didn't have a lot of sacks, but that had a lot to do with Hawaii's system. Uses his hands well. Good closing speed. Solid tackler. Has to watch his pad level. Can be too upright at times. Very good feet for a big guy. Played in the Hula Bowl. Was clearly the best DL there. Unfortunately, hurt his pectoral muscle. Wasn't able to work out at the Combine. Had a solid workout at his Pro Day.
SUMMARY
Alama-Francis has a lot of potential. Should go in the late 2nd or early 3rd. Some teams have considered him for LB. Some for TE. Some for 4-3 DE and others for 3-4 DE. He's a big athletic kid who is at his best when getting after the QB. |
