Matt's Notes on CJ Ah You

Tommy's Notes on CJ Ah You
Pursues well. Starting LDE. Also played some DT late in the year, especially in Nickel sets. Very good lateral movement at DT. As DE, is solid vs the run. Works to the ball. Does a good job of moving down the LOS in pursuit of a play away from him. Not reckless, but hustles and is cognizant of cutback runs. Just lacks the kind of burst you really want from a DE. Only had 4 sacks this year. And that is playing for an aggressive team that normally rushes the passer really well. He did play DT in some sets. Might have a future there with DEN or IND or someone that likes smaller guys on the inside. Transferred to OU from BYU, via a Junior College. Was the Big 12 Newcomer of the year in 2005. Posted 6.5 sacks, 10 TFLs, and 3 FFs. Not sure why the production fell in '06. Had a very good Combine. Ran a 4.70. Had a very good 3-cone time of 7.06. 36.5 VJ. Did 26 reps.

SUMMARY

CJ has okay size and some pass rushe ability, but he just didn't show enough in '06 to be considered a strong DE prospect. That said, he has the athletic ability to be a starting DE. Could be a Mark Anderson type that will flourish in the NFL or simply a workout warrior that will fizzle.
