Matt's Notes on Quentin Moses

Tommy's Notes on Quentin Moses
Mystery. If the Draft were held back in September, he'd have likely gone in the 1st Rd. He had a great Junior season. Put up 11.5 sacks and was a terrific pass rusher. Everyone expected him to have an outstanding Senior campaign. Oops. Moses had a down year. Then he went to the Senior Bowl and was thoroughly disappointing. He followed that up with an unimpressive Combine showing.

If you go back to '05, you see a good burst. You see a disruptive edge rusher. Played fast. Made a lot of plays. If you watch ’06, you see a different player. Poor production. Only 4.5 sacks. Good QAB. Moves well. Could possibly play LB. Plays LDE and RDE. Flushed QB vs AUB…led to sack for #99. Okay shoulder dip. Needs to come off the ball harder. Has the quickness, but looks to be playing too under control…almost hesitant. Stood up TE on short yardage play vs AUB. His pressure up middle led to Battle INT vs AUB. Had one beautiful move vs AUB. Faked inside, then shot around the outside. Beat the RT and flattened the QB just after the pass had been thrown. Okay hips. Lots of wiggle. Has good inside move. Not stout enough. Needs to fight through blocks better. Shot inside of the RT to get a TFL in the bowl game. Got physical with the Va Tech LT. Drove him back a couple of yds on a running play. Flashes. Had back to back plays in the bowl game where he was disruptive. One time he came off the edge, the other he used an inside move.

SUMMARY

Will some teams focus on the Junior tapes, when Moses was a dominant pass rusher and a difference maker? Will most teams focus on 2006, when he was the complementary player to Charles Johnson? The '05 season shows talent and potential. How soon do you take this guy? Conservative organizations will probably have a mid round grade on him. Some team may take a chance and grab him in the 2nd. I wouldn't take him before Day 2.
