I love him as a player, hate that he’s on the Redskins. Unfortunately, I’m a bigger fan of the NFL than I am the Eagles and it’d be great for the NFL if both Luck and RG3 become elite.
Seems a bit early for the Eagles to be calling agents/players to tell them they’re the pick, no? Andrew Brandt says teams call agents/players all the time on draft day, just to make sure they have the right phone numbers.
Tampa was trying to move up, or at least Minnesota convinced them they were. You give them a little to switch picks to protect the guy they want from being taken by another team.
Bucs fan here GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! Barron? Seriously? I’m disgusted Dallas gets best CB in the draft and we take Barron 6-10picks early. Well, we do need a physical safety to cover Jimmy Graham and Greg Olsen and Tony Gonzalez.
Props to you guys calling the Cox to Eagles! Man that’s quite impressive.
Dallas got a great CB prospect, but had to cough up a 2nd. We know what Washington gave up to move 2 spots. Eagles also spent picks…but just a 4th and 6th.
But yeah…no real head scratchers…great prospects coming to the NFCE
That’s a pretty common trend but it seems like picks of that nature never happen even though they seem so logical. Keep in mind Bruce Arians is their OC and while Fleener isn’t a bad blocker, Arians had Heath Miller for a long time over in Pittsburgh. He may want a great blocker who can be a good short to intermediate TE as opposed to a split the seam, red zone target. Heath has a total of 4 touchdowns in the past 2 seasons and never more than 7.
bravo on the mock drafts, as far as player pick at ranks, pretty spot on and with the Philly trade up for Cox. who could have guessed the trades! Best first round Iv seen in awhile, really exciting, even though my ravens traded out, might still grab upshaw..should be interesting
I do not understand the logic behind the Lions passing on a falling David DeCastro in favor of Riley Reiff. Years ago the Lions really wanted to draft Steve Hutchinson, but Seattle picked him one spot ahead of us, so we ended up settling for Jeff Backus instead. Hutchinson went on to have a very great career, while Backus has been not-bad to serviceable. It seems like history is repeating itself, except that this time the Lions had a chance to get Hutchinson V.2, yet they passed on him for a guy who can’t play LT and had a poor showing at the combine. While I HATED the Nick Fairley pick last year, the Riley Reiff pick is more of a head scratcher because of DeCastro’s availability.
You didn’t ask me but I thought the Lions were looking for help at OT, and they got one of the Top 3 in this draft in Reiff. I liked the pick for them. I think the Steelers made a great pick as well in DeCastro. I thought both teams made solid picks. If you are a Lions or a Steelers fan I think you should feel pretty good that your team was able to get 1 of the Top 3 OL at #23 and #24 without having to trade up.
Time will tell if one made a better pick than the other.
We need help on our entire Offensive Line other than LG – Rob Sims. That is why I felt we should have taken the best available Offensive Lineman at that point, which was David DeCastro. Stephen Peterman is a penalty machine at RG, and we need to establish our running game much better this season. I don’t absolutely hate the Riley Reiff pick, but you can’t pass on Steve Hutchinson 2.0 when you have as many holes on our O-Line as we do.
Hey, DeCastro was my favorite OL after Kalil. But Reiff was my 3rd. I liked the pick. I understand the disappointment if you wanted DeCastro. But I think to make it sound like Reiff is some terrible piece of garbage is not accurate. I think he will be a quality football player for the Lions. As good as DeCastro is for the Steelers? Not sure.
O.K. conversation over with. No one said Reiff was a terrible piece of garbage. Stop fishing. I said he had short arms, can’t play LT and had a terrible combine (showing up overweight didn’t help), which was all true. The fact of the matter is that DeCastro was rated as a better prospect than Reiff was, so I felt we should have taken DeCastro instead, especially since he ended up falling right in our laps. Either way, I’m done.
The Browns trade makes sense. Go get the great RB if that is what your team is built for.
Luck’s voice cracks me up. I would love to hear him say “It puts the lotion in the basket…”.
G’day from Australia. Let’s see a big haul today!!!
G’day back to you. I love the fact NFL fans are all over and everyone is stoked for the draft. Awesome.
Definitely stoked. I love this stuff, the NFL generates more buzz around the draft then any other sport.
I’ve read all your posts, I know the prospects, I’m ready for the Eagles to clean up tonight!
Am I the only one praying that RGIII busts?
I love him as a player, hate that he’s on the Redskins. Unfortunately, I’m a bigger fan of the NFL than I am the Eagles and it’d be great for the NFL if both Luck and RG3 become elite.
Get the hell off the site Gimp. I can’t believe you said that.
He’s the enemy now.
I’d like him to succeed, but still struggle enough to keep WAS down in the dumps.
That sounds good to me
RT @RichCimini: Chandler Jones update: Agent Ethan Locke tells ESPN’s Sal Pal that Eagles are calling about Jones. #Jets
Seems a bit early for the Eagles to be calling agents/players to tell them they’re the pick, no? Andrew Brandt says teams call agents/players all the time on draft day, just to make sure they have the right phone numbers.
I think youre right. Just thought Id share.
So many trades… things moving quickly this year.
Cowboys up to 6. Gotta be for Cox.
Dallas trades up to 6…if they take Cox I will cry.
Claiborne to Dallas…..ouch.
Claiborne makes sense. Playmaking CB. Good value.
Looks like Dallas is gonna take Claiborne. Epic CBs for them.
Damnit ESPN, don’t ruin the pick!!!!
ESPN? Put the Network on. Better coverage.
Cox still on the board, beautiful.
On Sal Pal – it would be the first time ever that he’d be right. That said, not happy if the Birds take Chandler over a few other guys.
The Rams are building up a ridiculously large haul of picks over the next 3 years
3 2nd round picks. 33, 39, and 45. That’s a lot of talent, should get at least 2 day 1 starters out of top 4 picks.
Tommy, I don’t get Cleveland moving up for TR. Minnesota wasn’t taking a RB why not stay at #4 and still get the guy you want? What am I missing?
Tampa was trying to move up, or at least Minnesota convinced them they were. You give them a little to switch picks to protect the guy they want from being taken by another team.
Did CLE fear another team moving into the #3 to take TR?
A little high for Barron?
If by a little you mean half a round early, yes.
Gotta like what STL has done, understanding they need players. They have three 2nds this year and two 1′s next year.
Cox and Kuechly still on the board!! If they both make it back Buffalo and KC it seems certain we get one.
Barron going early helps push guys down to us, Im happy about it.
Exactly!
C’mon. Take Coples. GM and HC just visited him a few days ago.
They just tweeted they took Kuechly. DAMMIT!!!
F#$K!!!
Gilmore to Buffalo…Cox still on the board
Sorry Tommy! : (
We’ll have to wait another year for a 1st round LB. Too bad, it would have been nice to see exactly what AR would have done had LK been on the board.
Kansas City is not passing on Cox. It ain’t happening.
I just have one question — could we have moved up like the Cowboys did for just a 2nd rounder and have gotten Cox? If so, why didn’t we?
I’m dying over here.
They always have a plan. What it is I’m not sure, but there’s a plan.
Is it worth it with such many good plays in the 2nd?
Sal Pal saying the Eagles are calling Chandler Jones.
eff the panthers.
Schefter tweeting the picks is pissing me off. I don’t want to know them. There were rules put in place for a reason dude. Follow them.
unfollow him during the draft?
With Gilmore gone and Cox likely to go prior to #15, I’m prepared for the Eagles to trade down.
Matt, it’s gonna be Poe I think.
Ugh, pick just got ruined for me. Won’t do it for you guys, but at least know you’ll be happy.
Wow!
I don’t follow him Anders. Everyone else is re-tweeting him I do follow. LOL.
YES!!!
Poe? Wow.
I definitely understand it, but wouldn’t have done it.
Eagles going to go get Cox!!
Eagles trade with Seahawks.
FLETCHER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eagles next. Please COX!
Cmon Baby!
YES!!! EAGLES WIN BABY!!!!
114th and 172nd picks to trade up. We traded a 4th and 6th. Yes!!!!
Agreed. Still have 4 of the top 88 picks!!
I didn’t get Luke. I need me some Fletcher Cox!!
Gotta be Cox. Howie playing some poker tonight(had me sweating)
Epic job by Eagles FO. Epic. They get their top guy and only trade a 4th and 6th. This reminds me of sitting tight for Bunk.
FYI, Eagles tweeted the pick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
HELL YEAH!!!!!!!! COX!!!!
This is so sexy.
I wish I turned in my first mock that I chickened out of. Had us trading up to 5 for him. LOL.
Thank You Howie
Dude, Jamar Chaney was tweeting Cox earlier today. haha.
This is truly the first time I’ve been happy with an Eagles 1st round pick since Bunkley.
We all needed that after hearing of Dawk’s retirement and the Asante debacle-trade.
And Schefter just ruined the Cardinals pick. Unfollowed.
Larry Fitzgerald made that pick. Kolb licking his chops!
Melvin Ingram still on the board. Crazy.
Where does Ingram make most sense?
I think Seattle. Matt had him going to the Jets. I just think Seahawks need a pass rusher that isn’t Clemons.
i’m eating wings give me a minute
You sharing Matt? I could go for some wings!
no share wingy
Still no DEs off the board yet. That’s unusual most years.
wow
AND HERE’S THE SHOCKER!! BRUCE IRVIN!?!?!!
WTF?!?!? Irvin is the first DE off the board?? Reach much Pete Carroll?
Well, I said the Seahawks needed a pass rusher and that’s what Irvin is.
Shady and current Pitt WR Devin Street are laughing at the Seahawks pick. They know Irvin probably isn’t top 15 good.
FLETCH LIVES!!!
Look at how the board shook out, did the Eagles need to move up? Just sayin.
Let’s assume they were wrong and Cox fell to them at 15.
They spent a 1st, 4th, and 6th and got their guy. I’ll spend that any day on Cox.
So where do they move up for Fleener, Matt?
Dave just said that Andy was supposed to come into the studio, but went back upstairs.
Good sign they’re looking to get back in.
Wings are done. Sticky hands.
Chicago – DeCastro, Glenn, Mercilus?
It’s turning out Reiff’s value is what I thought it was before I read others’ mock drafts – late 1st round.
Move up to for Fleener? Not sure how high you’d want to get. Denver probably.
No DTs worth taking anymore.
New England just traded up with Cinci.
Id like to get back up for Hill
Gimp got another pick. Bastard.
Muahahahaha.
Joe – It’d be for Fleener. Just heard the Eagles are done for the night though.
I know. I just dont want to believe it. If its not Hill, Im glad theyre done.
Fleener could slip out of 1st. If Bruce Irvin goes 15 Fleener can fall to the 2nd.
Dave just said they have 27 players with 1st round grades and they are not ruling out a trade up. Andy will join the show after the 1st round is over.
Good pick by the Lions. Protect Stafford.
Nice picks back to back by Lions and Steelers
2 defenders for new england.
Only have the chance to get 4 more picks right in my mock. C’mon, help me out here Houston, Baltimore, San Fran and New York.
Only 3 left. Crap.
Wow, this 1st round went fast. Surprising. All NFCE teams did well so far. Will give Jimmy some opportunity for some good comments.
Dallas got a great CB prospect, but had to cough up a 2nd. We know what Washington gave up to move 2 spots. Eagles also spent picks…but just a 4th and 6th.
But yeah…no real head scratchers…great prospects coming to the NFCE
Will Giants target Fleener?
Remind me never to listen to Tony Pauline on draft rumors again. He’s 0 for the draft.
LOL @ Vikings.
Harrison who?
Tampa – Doug Martin or Mo Sanu – book it.
Huge reaches by SF, Seattle and Minnesota. Huge.
Didn’t like the AJ Jenkins pick at all.
Only time will tell. Tommy wasn t high on Mike Wallace, neither…
Actually, I shouldn’t say book it. The Barron pick wasn’t a Schiano pick. Scratch that.
It’s Martin. Good call.
Ended up being right. There we go. Finally.
Well, the Giants could help me out and draft Coby Fleener, but I’d be pissed not to get him.
So, don’t do it.
They didn’t do it…
Have to think Eagles are thinking CB and LB now…possibly Fleener
Colts will take Fleener tomorrow dont you think?
I think the Colts should draft Fleener. They need to surround Luck with some weapons.
That’s a pretty common trend but it seems like picks of that nature never happen even though they seem so logical. Keep in mind Bruce Arians is their OC and while Fleener isn’t a bad blocker, Arians had Heath Miller for a long time over in Pittsburgh. Even People in Germany are following the draft (and by the way: your draft-site, too)!
