McCourty Now Makes More Sense

by Tommy Lawlor  -  ScoutsNotebook.com

In my review of the Patriots draft I mentioned being a little surprised with the choice of CB Devin McCourty.  I thought they had decent depth already in place.  Today the Patriots cut CB Shawn Springs.  That makes the pick of McCourty a lot more logical.

Leigh Bodden and Darius Butler are the top CBs for now, but McCourty is the kind of tough, competitive player that will go to Training Camp and do everything in his power to win a job or at least show that he deserves some playing time.

On a personal level, I’m sad to see Springs go.  I watched his dad, Ron Springs, play RB for Dallas when I was a kid.  Now I’ve seen Shawn go from star at Ohio State to NFL star to player on the way out.  That makes me feel old.  When is the next Springs going to hit the NFL?

Wait till someone you remember as a pimple faced rookie becomes a retired grey haired coach.

Sadly, that will happen one of these days.
